What is RoofCheck.AI?
RoofCheck.AI is a free online service that analyses the solar potential of your roof. We use satellite data and the Google Solar API to deliver a detailed assessment within 2 minutes.
Is the analysis really free?
Yes, the solar analysis is 100% free. You can view the result immediately. Optionally, you can request quotes from qualified installers — that is also free of charge for you.
How accurate are the results?
We use real satellite data from Google. Our analyses are based on the Google Solar API and EU PVGIS reference data. Actual values may vary depending on local conditions.
2Analysis & Data
Where does the data come from?
We use the Google Solar API, which is based on high-resolution satellite imagery and 3D models. In addition, we use weather data and regional solar irradiation values.
What information do you need?
Only your address. Our system automatically detects your roof and analyses its orientation, tilt and area. Optionally, you can provide details such as your electricity consumption for more detailed results.
Does it work for every roof?
The Google Solar API covers large parts of Germany. For some older buildings or very rural areas, we use simulation data based on statistical averages.
3Solar & Photovoltaics
What does "kWp" mean?
kWp (kilowatt peak) is the rated output of a solar system under standard test conditions. A 10 kWp system can generate 10 kW of power under optimal conditions.
How much electricity does a solar system produce?
In the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), a system produces around 900–1,100 kWh per kWp per year. A 10 kWp system therefore generates approx. 9,000–11,000 kWh annually.
Is a solar system still worth it?
Yes! Despite lower feed-in tariffs, solar systems are more economical than ever thanks to high electricity prices and falling module prices. Typical payback periods are 8–12 years.
Do I need a south-facing roof?
A south-facing orientation is optimal but not essential. East-west orientations still achieve around 80–90% of the yield and have the advantage of a more even electricity production.
4Roof Renovation & Solar
Can I combine a roof renovation with solar?
Yes, that is actually ideal. During a roof renovation you can integrate photovoltaics directly and save twice: through the new roof and through solar power. In many German federal states, a solar mandate even applies to roof renovations.
How much does an energy-efficient roof renovation cost?
An energy-efficient roof renovation typically costs 150–300 EUR per square metre. With KfW subsidies (Germany) and tax benefits, you can recover up to 40% of the costs.

What happens during the protection status check?
With your consent, your analysis is reviewed for hidden risks by solar and insurance partners in our network (GDPR-compliant solar specialist contractors and insurance partners). You receive an assessment of where you are protected and where gaps exist.
Am I obligated to anything?
No. The protection check is free and non-binding. You decide for yourself whether to accept any recommendations.
Who are the partner companies?
Solar specialist contractors and insurance reviewers in our network who assess your analysis. Partners contact you by email. Telephone contact only with your consent. Withdraw at any time via support@roofcheck.ai.
6Privacy & EU Law
What happens to my data?
Your data is processed in compliance with the GDPR and used only for the stated purpose. We do not pass on any data to third parties without your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
Are cookies used?
We use Plausible Analytics, which works without cookies and is fully GDPR-compliant. No personal data is collected.
Does the GDPR also apply outside Germany?
Yes — RoofCheck.AI covers all EU-27 countries plus Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Users in the EU are protected by the GDPR, in the UK by the UK GDPR, and in Switzerland by the new Swiss FADP (nFADP). In all 29 markets, data is only used with explicit consent.

What is the feed-in tariff in Germany in 2026?
German EEG 2026: For systems up to 10 kWp approx. 6.45 cents/kWh (full feed-in, guaranteed for 20 years). For systems of 10–40 kWp: 5.56 ct/kWh. For systems up to 100 kWp: 4.47 ct/kWh. Our feed-in tool calculates your personal yield free of charge.
What are the feed-in tariffs in other EU countries?
Tariffs vary widely: Austria approx. 11 ct/kWh (OeMAG, 15 years), France up to 18 ct/kWh (Arrêté tarifaire, 20 years), the Netherlands via the SDE++ scheme, Spain via IDAE PNIEC, Italy via GSE. Our EU feed-in tracker shows all 29 markets at a glance.
Does RoofCheck.AI work in France, Spain and other EU countries?
Yes — RoofCheck.AI supports all 27 EU member states plus the United Kingdom and Switzerland — 29 markets in total. Main markets (DE/AT/FR/ES/IT/NL/PL/BE/PT/UK) have native language versions with local subsidy information. Tier 2/3 countries receive English analyses with PVGIS data.
Which EU directives regulate solar in Europe?
The most important EU legal instruments: the Renewable Energy Directive RED II (2018/2001), revised as RED III (2023/2413) with a 42.5% target by 2030. The EPBD buildings directive mandates solar for new buildings. The EU Taxonomy Regulation classifies PV as a sustainable investment. Our legal radar tool analyses national implementations.
Are there EU-wide solar subsidies?
There are no direct EU subsidies — solar is subsidised nationally. However, the EU coordinates via the REPowerEU plan (2022) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Many Eastern European countries (PL, RO, BG, HR) have ERDF-funded solar programmes. Our subsidy scanner checks available programmes based on your location.

How is RoofCheck.AI funded?
All solar analyses are free for consumers. RoofCheck.AI does not sell solar systems and is funded through a partner programme with solar and insurance partners in our network. The analysis results are calculated algorithmically and are not influenced by referral partnerships. The optional sharing of your data with partner companies in our network requires your explicit consent — and can be withdrawn at any time.
How accurate and up to date is your analysis data?
We use the most comprehensive publicly available data sources: EU PVGIS (the European Commission’s satellite-based yield data atlas), the Google Solar API (high-resolution 3D roof modelling) and Eurostat electricity price data (updated quarterly). RoofCheck.AI is continuously being developed — we are constantly building new connections to institutions and authorities to improve data quality and validate it institutionally. Every analysis includes source references.
Is my data sold or shared without my knowledge?
No — never. Your analysis data is not sold. Data is only passed on to partners (installers or insurance partners) with your explicit, voluntary consent via a separate checkbox in the lead form. This consent is optional, can be withdrawn at any time, and is not a prerequisite for the free use of RoofCheck.AI.
